Scholarship Opportunities in Australia
Australia Awards
Funded by the Australian Government, Australia Awards aim to build enduring educational connections and promote development in partner countries. These prestigious scholarships are offered through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Department of Education, and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).
2027 Intake Update: Applications for study commencing in 2027 are officially open from 1 February 2026 until 30 April 2026. These awards cover full tuition fees, return air travel, establishment allowances, and a fortnightly contribution toward living expenses. Recipients must return home for at least two years after completing their studies to apply their knowledge locally.
Destination Australia
The Destination Australia Programme is a government initiative that supports both domestic and international students to study in regional Australia. Scholarships are worth up to AUD 15,000 per student per year for a period of up to four years.
These scholarships are available for study levels from Certificate IV to Doctoral (PhD) programmes. Studying in a regional area not only offers financial support but also provides students with unique lifestyle benefits and potential advantages in post-study work visa applications.
Research Training Program (RTP)
The Research Training Program (RTP) provides support for international students undertaking research degrees (Master’s by Research and PhD). For the 2026 academic year, stipend rates have been indexed to support students with rising living costs.
RTP scholarships typically cover:
- Full tuition fee offset.
- A living stipend (2026 rates range from approximately AUD 37,010 to AUD 39,500 per annum, depending on the university).
- Allowances for relocation, thesis printing, and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
University-Specific Scholarships
Most Australian universities offer institutional scholarships based on academic achievement, leadership, or financial need. In 2026, many of our partner universities have introduced specific “Excellence Awards” that provide 15% to 50% tuition fee reductions for the entire duration of the course. These may also include:
- Accommodation support or bursaries.
- One-off grants for travel or setup costs (often between AUD 5,000 and AUD 10,000).
- Dedicated bursaries for STEM, Nursing, and Education students.
How to Apply for Scholarships in Australia
Applying for scholarships is highly competitive and requires early planning. The Australian Government also requires students to meet a higher financial threshold, showing evidence of at least AUD 29,710 in living costs for visa purposes.
- Research early: Deadlines for major government awards close as early as April 2026.
- Check eligibility: Ensure you meet the criteria for nationality, academic grades, and the new Genuine Student (GS) visa requirement.
