Overview
Founded in 1968, Capilano University opened its permanent campus in North Vancouver in 1973. The University offers around 100 programs, which include design, film, engineering, business administration, hospitality, kinesiology, healthcare, interdisciplinary studies, law, music, and many others.
Capilano University classes are small, and 45% of courses include experiential learning opportunities to ensure you are career ready.
Capilano University (CapU) enrolls around 12,700 students every year, of which 9,000 are in credit programs, and approximately 1,200 are enrolled in non-credit courses. The University also hosts 2,500 international students every year.
Capilano University also offers athletics programs in soccer, volleyball, and basketball for men and women. CapU’s Centre for Sport and Wellness has spaces for badminton, recreational basketball, yoga, and a well-equipped weight room.
Services
Capilano University has a dedicated Centre for International Experience (CIE) for international students. It provides immigration, admission, academic, counselling services, and mentor programs.
CapU has partner agreements with several English language schools for international students. Scholarships, bursaries, and awards are given to international students based on their financial and merit status and athletic achievements. The residence for the international students is the same as that for the local students.
Accommodation
The Capilano University offers accommodations for students a short distance from the North Vancouver campus at Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver. The students can take a virtual tour on the university website before selecting the residence option. The single-gender residence offers single and double rooms, and the allotment is decided based on availability. The students not allotted in the first list are later chosen by lottery as rooms become available.
The rooms are equipped with a bed, storage, a desk, a chair, and a closet for each student. The residence also offers high-speed wireless internet. The students share a common lounge, washroom, and shared showers. Accommodations come with mandatory meal plans in which breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available. It also provides some amount for meals consumed on campus. Laundry rooms are open for students 24/7.
Location
Capilano University’s main campus is at Purcell Way, North Vancouver, which students can reach by Trans-Canada Highway. The Sunshine Coast campus of the university is located at Inlet Avenue, Sechelt and CapU Lonsdale is at Victory Ship Way in North Vancouver. The university also has a T’szil learning centre owned and operated by Lil'wat Nation at Mount Currie. The main campus is close to BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts, Lynn Canyon Park, and Maplewood Farm.
