Overview
University College Dublin (UCD), founded in 1854, is Ireland’s largest university and one of Europe’s leading research-intensive institutions. Ranked within the top 1% of universities globally, UCD is placed 118th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2026.
The university has a student population of over 38,000, including more than 10,000 international students from around 150 countries. Its main Belfield campus, set across 133 hectares of parkland in Dublin, is one of the largest urban campuses in Europe and features world-class facilities such as the UCD O’Brien Centre for Science, Sutherland School of Law, and Lochlann Quinn School of Business.
UCD offers one of the most comprehensive programme portfolios in Ireland, spanning disciplines from engineering and business to health sciences and the humanities. A strong emphasis is placed on research, innovation, and employability, with close links to industry and global employers.

UCD Facilities
UCD offers one of the most extensive ranges of student facilities in Ireland, designed to support wellbeing, community life and academic development. The Student Centre and UCD Sport & Fitness Complex form the heart of campus activity, and students have many opportunities to engage with clubs, societies and discipline‑related initiatives.
The Student Centre includes a 3D cinema, drama theatre, debating chamber, 600‑seat auditorium, TV studio, radio pod, seminar rooms, medical centre, pharmacy, barber, newsagent, cafés, shops, social spaces and dedicated rooms for clubs and societies.
Sports facilities feature a 50‑metre pool, gym, dance and spinning studios, sauna and jacuzzi, multi‑purpose sports halls, squash courts, climbing wall, performance and squad gyms, 17 natural grass pitches, synthetic 5‑a‑side pitches, hockey, rugby, GAA and soccer pitches, plus the National Hockey Stadium. Student membership provides free access to the main gym and performance gym.
Services
International students are supported by UCD Global, which provides guidance from application through to arrival, including visa advice and orientation programmes. These sessions help students transition smoothly into academic and social life in Ireland.
Academic support is available through services such as the Applied Language Centre, which offers English language support and a range of modern language courses. Students can also access learning support, IT workshops, and career development services.
UCD has over 60 student societies and numerous sports clubs, alongside extensive campus facilities including a medical centre, pharmacy, and student support services.
Scholarships at UCD

The UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School is particularly well ranked, featuring among Europe’s top business schools in the Financial Times rankings, with strong global positions across MBA and master’s programmes.
Accommodation
UCD offers a wide range of on-campus accommodation across its Belfield and Blackrock campuses, as well as catered off-campus options in nearby areas such as Donnybrook.
Residences include traditional halls and modern self-catered apartments, typically housing between four and six students. All accommodation includes utilities such as electricity, heating, and Wi-Fi, along with access to laundry facilities and secure bike storage.
A 24-hour residential support team is available, and demand is high, so early application is recommended for international students.
Location
UCD’s Belfield campus is located south of Dublin city centre, offering a spacious and green environment while remaining well connected to the city. The university is easily accessible by bus, including direct services such as Aircoach linking the campus to Dublin Airport in around 30 minutes.
Dublin provides a vibrant student experience, with a strong mix of cultural, social, and professional opportunities. Students can explore attractions such as Christ Church Cathedral and enjoy access to coastal areas along Dublin Bay within a short distance.
