The University of Ottawa (uOttawa), a bilingual (English /French) public research university, was founded in 1848 as the College of Baytown, Ottawa, Canada. It is ranked number one for French immersion programs among Canadian universities.

The main campus is located within 105 acres in the heart of Ottawa's downtown core, adjacent to the residential neighbourhood of Sandy Hill and Ottawa's Rideau Canal. There are 44,000 students at Ottawa, with international students making up around 19% of the student body from 155 countries.

Five new state-of-the-art facilities have opened in recent years, and students can choose to study over 550 B.Sc., B.Tech., BBA, M.Tech., MBA, MIM, and PhD programs. A student-to-teacher ratio of 25:1 means students get the attention they deserve.

Ottawa's large campus houses more than 300 classrooms, more than 800 research laboratories and 100 support buildings. Ottawa is considered one of the friendliest cities in Canada and was recently ranked in the global top 20 for quality of living.

Services

Student support is provided via counselling and walk-in clinics. Additionally, mental health and wellness programs help students stay happy and healthy in different ways. The Student Club encourages students to engage in multicultural and recreational activities, including a community garden and free store. Financial aid is available to eligible students through scholarship and bursary programs.

The Mashkawaziwogamig Indigenous Resource Centre on the main campus works to preserve culture and values, while The Pride Center at uOttawa works to promote sexual health and wellness with a focus on 2SLGBTQ+ issues.
