Overview
BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus (BPDC) is the only international branch of the famous Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, which is one of India’s top private universities.
Opened in 2000, the Dubai campus was the first offshore branch of any Indian university. It has grown into a major centre for engineering and technology education in the Middle East, with more than 6,000 graduates working in various industries around the world
The university is known for its high academic standards and its unique "Practice School" programme. This programme is a mandatory internship where every student spends over seven months working with a real company to gain professional experience before they graduate. The campus features modern facilities, including an Aerospace Lab, a Robotics Lab, and a Centre for Blockchain and AI.
Services
The university provides several services to help international students adjust to life in the UAE. The Student Welfare Division (SWD) manages everything from student visas and health insurance to day-to-day campus life. New students attend a comprehensive Orientation Programme that helps them understand the academic system and introduces them to the campus facilities.
For personal and academic support, students can use the Counselling Service, which offers private sessions to help with stress or settling in. There are many ways to get involved in campus life through more than 15 student clubs, such as the Supernova Astronomy Club, the Wall Street Club for finance fans, and the Drama Club.
Rankings
BITS Pilani, Dubai is particularly famous for its engineering courses; its Civil and Structural Engineering programmes are ranked in the Top 300 globally by QS. In India, it consistently ranks as one of the best private universities for research and technical education.
Accommodation
The BITS Pilani, Dubai campus is fully residential, which means it offers housing for all its students. There are separate hostels for boys and girls, located directly on the campus.
Location
BITS Pilani, Dubai is located in Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), which is a dedicated zone for higher education. This area provides a quiet and safe environment for studying, away from the busy city centre. It is about a 20-minute drive from Dubai International Airport (DXB).
While the metro does not go directly to the campus, students can take the Line 320 bus from the Rashidiya (Centerpoint) Metro Station to get there. The university also offers its own private bus service that picks up students from various points across Dubai and Sharjah. For shopping and eating out, Dubai Silicon Oasis is very close and has many supermarkets and restaurants. Famous sights like the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall are about 25 minutes away by car or taxi.
