Overview
Langara College offers a variety of degree programs to more than 22,000 students every year.
Founded in 1965 as part of Vancouver Community College and eventually moved on to open another campus on 49th Avenue. Under the Provincial College and Institute Act, it became an independent public college.
Langara College is ranked 7,453 worldwide by the Ranking Web of Universities. It offers different courses in various domains, from undergraduate degrees to career studies and continuing studies. It caters to Arts, Health, Business Science, Technology, Humanities, and Social Sciences streams.
Langara is known for giving personalised attention to each student and, hence, the class size is small. The college fees are lower than most universities, and it offers flexibility in the selection of courses along with providing a program for academic English at the campus.
Services
Langara offers the best support to international students and begins the session with an orientation program. All the students are encouraged to mark their attendance by pre-registering themselves for the event.
There is a digital guide as well for students with all the support and resources available to have a comfortable stay at the college. Langara also offers an extensive ESL program called LEAP to help students prepare for college admissions.
Rankings
Langara College is ranked 7,453 worldwide by the Ranking Web of Universities. Its school of management is among the six best business schools in Canada. The college occupied the 1,645th spot among Canadian colleges in this year's ranking by Web of Universities.
Accommodation
Langara does not offer an on-campus accommodation facility. Students generally stay with relatives or in a homestay, which is easy to find. Homestays also help students mingle with the locals.
Students can also opt for off-campus residences offered by GEC. The best GEC residences are GEC Pearson and Marine Gateway, which are located within walking distance of the campus.
Location
The main campus of Langara College is located near 49th Avenue between Cambie Street and the main street, near a residential complex and is part of the U-Pass BC program. This gives students unlimited access to TransLink bus, SeaBus services, and SkyTrain to travel around.
The Oakridge Centre mall is 5 minutes from the campus, while Richmond Centre mall is 10 minutes away. There are many cafes and local restaurants near the college. Downtown Vancouver is approximately 15 minutes away.
