Overview

Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) is a public research institution located in St. John’s, the capital of Canada’s easternmost province, Newfoundland and Labrador. Founded in 1925, it is the only university in the province, serving as a vital educational and research hub for the region.

MUN is the largest university in Atlantic Canada, with a student population of approximately 18,000 to 19,000, including over 3,400 international students from more than 100 countries. The University offers more than 100 degree programmes and over 90 professional development and certificate options across diploma, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Its academic structure includes faculties such as Arts, Science, Engineering and Applied Science, Business Administration, and Medicine, alongside specialised institutes like the Marine Institute and the School of Music.

The University operates multiple campuses: the main campus in St. John’s, Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook, the Marine Institute also in St. John’s, and an international campus in Harlow, Essex, England. This geographic spread allows students to engage with diverse learning environments, including coastal research facilities and international study opportunities.

International students benefit from competitive tuition fees, a relatively low cost of living compared to other Canadian cities, and a wide range of scholarships and funding opportunities. English is the language of instruction, and those who do not meet the language requirements may enrol in English language programmes offered at the Grenfell Campus.

Services

Memorial University of Newfoundland offers its students a broad range of nationally recognised professional and academic support programs. The University is committed to international co-operation, cultural sensitivity, student mobility and internationalisation, and over 125 exchange programs with educational institutions from more than 40 countries are available.
