Overview

The Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) is a public post-secondary institute offering industry-driven, student-focused education in the areas of skilled trades, business and information technology, health care, and human services. We provide affordable, timely, skills-based education for learners seeking career entry as well as those looking to acquire relevant, in-demand competencies at any point in life.

In 2019, MITT graduates who applied for the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program had a 95 percent approval rate, whilst from March 2020 through September 2021, MITT received applications from prospective students in more than 80 countries.

MITT provides over 30 skill training programs, specialising in business and information technology, healthcare, lifelong learning institute, human services, skilled trades, etc. MITT has nearly 4,000 (3,821 in 2020–21) students in secondary, post-secondary, language, and adult learning programs, with almost 37% of the student population being international students.

All MITT students complete the Work Skills course, which includes a series of workshops that help them with employability skills.

Services

The MITT Student Services team provides holistic support to international MITT students. Students can connect with the team whenever they need assistance regarding their program. MITT’s certified immigration advisor can also assist international students on matters related to their visas, work permits, and other immigration-related matters.

For the English proficiency requirement for ESL, students can join English classes at MITT's English Language Centre, supported by WELARC (Winnipeg English Language Assessment & Referral Centre).

All MITT students complete the Work Skills course, which includes a series of workshops that help them with employability skills.

Though MITT does not have designated student residences, it provides International Student Resources information on renting and sharing Student Housing in the neighbourhood in Southern Winnipeg.

In total, MITT has seven campuses. Manitoba is Canada’s fifth most populated province, with average housing costs lower than Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver. Winnipeg has a population of over 760,00 and was listed as one of Time Magazine’s “World’s Greatest Places” for 2021.
