From more relaxed visa rules to extended work hours and new graduate pathways, the New Zealand government is launching a range of student-friendly changes as part of its new International Education Going for Growth<\/em> plan.<\/p>\n

1. New Zealand is Investing in International Students<\/h3>\n

New Zealand has announced a bold 10-year strategy to grow its international student community from 83,700 in 2024 to 119,000 by 2034<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The government is backing this vision with policy changes designed to make studying in New Zealand more accessible, flexible, and rewarding!<\/p>\n

2. You Can Work More Hours While You Study<\/h3>\n

Starting in November 2025, international students holding new study visas will be permitted to work 25 hours per week<\/strong>, up from the current 20-hour limit. This applies to all new visa holders, even if the application was submitted earlier.<\/p>\n

If you already hold a visa limited to 20 hours, you\u2019ll need to apply for a variation of conditions or a new student visa to access the increased work allowance.<\/p>\n
