The 2022 Times Higher Education World Rankings rank the University of Oxford<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0University of Cambridge\u00a0<\/a>as the best two best universities in the world, but there are a few important things to be aware of if you are considering making an Oxbridge application.<\/p>\n

Oxbridge Application Requirements<\/h2>\n

Is Oxbridge for me?<\/h3>\n

This might sound like a silly question, because after all, who wouldn\u2019t want to study at one of the best universities in the world? However, it is important to\u00a0investigate if the university\u2019s teaching methods match your learning style and if you have the required grades. For example, terms are often shorter at Oxbridge universities, meaning more intensive study loads.<\/p>\n

Oxbridge entry requirements<\/h3>\n

In order to secure an offer at Oxford, A*A*A or AAA is required from your\u00a0A-levels\u00a0<\/a>(subject dependant) or 38-41 in the IB. For Cambridge, the standard candidate is expected to achieve A*A*A or A*AA depending on the course, equivalent 40-41 in the IB. Entry requirements at Oxbridge universities are high, and only the best students will be considered.<\/p>\n

Choosing the right Oxbridge course<\/h3>\n

Choosing a\u00a0high ranking UK university\u00a0<\/a>to study at is a top priority for many applicants, but it is also of vital importance to\u00a0consider which course\u00a0<\/a>you are applying for. Research its content, career prospects, and what former students have said. Compare to similar courses at other universities to learn if the modules are similar to what appeal to your interests.<\/p>\n

Oxbridge application deadlines<\/h3>\n

Due to the number of candidates applying to Oxbridge universities, the application deadline is much earlier. In order to be considered for the September 2023 intake, applications must be submitted by October 2022 for example. It is also important to note that students cannot apply to both Cambridge and Oxford at the same time, and must only choose one.<\/p>\n

Oxbridge\u00a0exams<\/h3>\n

Oxbridge Admissions Tests\u00a0<\/a>test aptitude rather than knowledge, and this helps universities distinguish excellent candidates from merely good ones. Don\u2019t expect the tests to be straight forward question and answer briefs \u2013 questions are often obtuse and require the candidate to think outside the box.<\/p>\n

Oxbridge interviews<\/h3>\n

Your grades will only get you so far when applying to Oxbridge, as all students are required to also pass an interview. Interviewers will be looking for candidates who are passionate about their interests, with enthusiasm a key trait in succeeding. Questions tend to focus on your personal statement so ensure you can back up and discuss at length what you have written down.<\/p>\n
