Overview

A leading government provider of vocational training and higher education in Victoria, the Chisholm Institute has six campuses across Melbourne offering diplomas, degrees, and postgraduate courses. Over 100,000 students have graduated from these courses since the institute was first established in 1998.

Chisholm’s courses are designed for real-world job outcomes. Students can get career-ready with hands-on training for in-demand occupations and stand out as a candidates to prospective employers. In addition, the institute’s strong collaborations with local, national, and international organisations allow students to gain practical experiences through industry-based placements.

Students can choose courses from 10 study levels, depending on their previous education qualifications and future goals:

  • Advanced diplomas
  • Apprenticeships and traineeships
  • Certificate courses
  • Degrees
  • Diplomas
  • Foundation courses
  • Graduate certificates
  • Pre-apprenticeships
  • Short courses
  • Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) programmes

These courses offer pathways for students to achieve their personal goals, be it changing careers or entering the workforce sooner. For instance, some students may choose to follow a certificate course to gain entry-level skills and start working as soon as they complete the course. The qualification then makes them eligible to earn credits in the next course level, such as a diploma.

Chisholm is especially known for its range of apprenticeships and traineeships, which allow students to earn while they learn in various occupations, such as bricklaying, hairdressing, and IT. In addition, the institute works closely with industries and the government to identify knowledge and skills needed for the future workforce.

Accommodation

Students planning their arrival to Australia can access information on accommodation options from Chisholm Institute, along with information on signing a lease and students’ rights and responsibilities as a tenant. If students are undertaking classes at Chisholm’s Berwick Campus, they can choose to stay at Federation University’s Fedliving accommodation as the two institutions share a housing agreement.

Many students opt to stay at shared houses where each person has their own room and shares common areas such as the kitchen and bathroom. Alternatively, students can find a homestay with a local family as it’s a great way to learn about the Australian lifestyle.

Location

Chisholm’s campuses across south east Melbourne offer collaborative study areas and modern facilities for the latest hands-on training. They’re home to some of the largest and most advanced training centres and workshops in Australia, such as a trade training centre and a greenhouse for horticulture students. Other facilities at Chisholm include state-of-the-art commercial kitchens that replicate real-world industry environments and student-run salons and spas where trainee students can develop their skills with specialist supervision.
