Overview
Nipissing University is primarily an undergraduate public university located in North Bay, Ontario. Overlooking Lake Nipissing, the university is renowned for providing an individualised student experience with small class sizes and supportive and accessible professors. Having a reputation for excellence in teacher education, science, arts, and professional programs, Nipissing University also has four distinct nursing programs, due to which it is known as the most nursing-intensive university in Ontario. The university offers around 30 areas of study, and many of them have opportunities for internships or experiential learning.
The university's roots extend back to 1967 with the formation of Nipissing University College as an affiliate of Laurentian University. In 1992, it received the charter as an independent university and was finally incorporated to address the specific needs of Northern Ontario. Nipissing's strategic focus on student experience and success has made the university positively impact the educational, cultural, social and economic life in the communities it serves.
Services
Nipissing University's dedicated International Student Support Office provides opportunities to internationalise the degree to students through various intercultural programs, study exchanges, volunteer and language programs and on-campus engagement opportunities.
Student Development and Services is a resource that intends to help everyone in the best possible manner, due to which the University recently ranked #1 in Student Services (undergraduate universities) in Canada by Maclean's. Students can use entrance scholarships given by the University to finance their education. Accommodation
The Residence at Nipissing University provides students with a safe, comfortable learning and living environment that helps them grow as individuals and develop long-lasting relationships. The housing styles have two options: suite-styled complexes housing up to 4 students and a townhouse-style complex accommodating up to 6 students. All the residences are within walking distance from the main campus.
Each residence has a full-time Residence Life Supervisor closely working with a team of senior students to assist first-year students with any problems they may face and organise fun events throughout the year. The various services provided to students in the residential complexes include:
- Cable TV in each suite’s standard room and individual bedroom
- Coin-operated laundry facilities
- Mailroom within each complex
- On-site maintenance personnel
- Smoke-free environments
- Telephone and voicemails in all rooms
- Video-monitored premises
Location
The main campus of Nipissing University is situated in North Bay, a facility shared with Canadore College. Apart from this, the university also has a satellite campus in Southern Ontario.
The city of North Bay is known as the “Gateway to the North.” The vibrant and diverse community offers a perfect blend of opportunities and easy living, which makes it an excellent place for students to learn and enjoy life. The nearest airport to the city is North Bay (YYB) Airport which is just 6.1 km away.
