Overview

Brunel University of London is a single‑site campus university in Uxbridge, west London, enrolling between 15,000 and 25,000 students, including a large international community representing more than 140 nationalities. Founded in 1966 and named after engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the University is organised into three academic colleges and five research institutes, with strengths spanning engineering, design, business, health sciences, and digital futures.

Brunel continues to strengthen its global reputation. It is ranked within the top 250 universities worldwide in TIME’s inaugural World’s Top Universities 2026, placing 9th globally for global engagement—a reflection of its diverse campus and strong international partnerships. In the QS World University Rankings 2026, Brunel remains within the top quarter globally, with notable improvements in sustainability performance, rising to 145th in QS Sustainability 2026.

The University is known for its career‑focused approach: over 95% of degrees include work placements, supported by long‑established industry links and a dedicated placements team. Facilities include specialist laboratories, simulators, a 3D body scanner, an immersive dome, and a 24/7 library with more than 300,000 books. Brunel’s Medical School, opened in 2022, adds state‑of‑the‑art clinical training spaces and strengthens its health and life sciences portfolio.

Services

International students are supported by Brunel International, a central hub offering guidance on visas, welfare, finance, and cultural adjustment. The University runs a well‑established three‑day orientation programme, highly rated by previous participants, helping students settle into academic and social life.

Specialist services include academic skills support, English language provision, and regular workshops and events organised through Student Services. A personal tutor system provides academic and pastoral guidance, while the Family and Partners Club supports students arriving with dependants. With more than 100 clubs and societies, international students can easily connect with peers and explore new interests.

Brunel is ranked within the top 250 globally and 9th worldwide for global engagement in TIME’s World’s Top Universities 2026. It remains in the top quarter of universities globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and is placed 145th in QS Sustainability 2026.

Nationally, Brunel ranks 67th in the Complete University Guide 2026 Complete University Guide. In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, it sits in the 401–500 band globally, with strong scores for international outlook (98.1) and research quality.

 

Brunel University of London ranks in the top-most quarter of universities worldwide according to the QS World University Rankings 2025 and holds the 1st position in the UK for international outlook according to the Times Higher Education University Rankings 2025. Brunel University London delivers a comprehensive learning experience with a focus on research and innovation, which is reflected in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, where Brunel ranks among the top 150 universities in the world for quality of learning by subject.

A recent survey placed Brunel graduates 13th in the UK for average starting salaries, with the figure of £22,000 being almost £3,000 above the national average. The University also excels in student satisfaction across physiotherapy, politics and history.

In the REF 2021, an independent assessment of the quality of research at universities across the country, 21.1% of Brunel’s submitted work was placed, up from 14.3% in 2014. Overall, 72.7% of Brunel’s submissions were assessed as being world-leading or internationally excellent, an increase from the previous score of 61%.

Accommodation

Brunel offers more than 4,500 on‑campus rooms, all within a ten‑minute walk of teaching and social facilities. The University guarantees accommodation for first‑year students (T&Cs apply) and provides a mix of en‑suite and standard rooms across multiple halls.

Significant investment, over £400 million in recent years, has enhanced residences and campus infrastructure. Brunel’s accommodation has previously hosted international sporting delegations, including teams during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The University’s Uxbridge campus sits on the western edge of London, offering a balance of city access and a self‑contained campus environment. Uxbridge Underground Station provides direct links to central London, while Heathrow Airport is around 20 minutes away, making travel convenient for international students.

On campus, essential amenities, including shops, banking services, a pharmacy, sports facilities, and study spaces, are all within easy reach. The surrounding area offers green spaces, shopping centres, cafés, and quick access to major motorways for exploring wider London and the South East.
