Overview
Gulf Medical University (GMU) is a private medical university established in 1998 in Ajman, UAE. It is one of the largest private medical universities in the Middle East, enrolling more than 3,500 students from over 90 nationalities.
The university operates within Thumbay Medicity, a major academic health hub that includes teaching hospitals, research centres, simulation facilities and specialised laboratories. GMU comprises six colleges offering 26 accredited programmes across medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, healthcare management and allied health sciences. Its Academic Health System integrates education, healthcare and research, supported by partnerships with more than 70 international universities and a network of six academic hospitals.
Facilities include advanced simulation centres, multimedia learning spaces, sports complexes and a dedicated library building.
Services
Gulf Medical University's International Student Services Office (ISSO) assists students with all aspects of their stay, from pre-arrival preparations to post-graduation plans. The ISSO offers comprehensive orientation programmes, visa and immigration support, and ongoing counselling services to help students acclimate to life in the UAE.
Students benefit from strong clinical training opportunities through affiliated hospitals across the UAE, including Sheikh Khalifa Hospital and Mafraq Hospital.

GMU appears in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, placing 301–400 globally for Good Health & Wellbeing and 101–200 for Quality Education. It also ranks 77th worldwide for Decent Work & Economic Growth.

GMU accommodation options include the University Residence Hall, located within walking distance of the main campus. This facility provides comfortable and secure living spaces.
